Mother's Day 2010

I can hardly believe that I'm going on 13 years being a mother.

When I was a kid all I ever really wanted to be was a mother. I remember this music tape we had with lots of cheesy songs, but I would listen to it over and over everyday. I'm sure I drove my parents crazy. One of my favorites from this tape was "I Want to Be a Mother" here are the lyrics. You can go here and click on #3 to hear the song.

"When I grow up I want to be a mother

And have a family

One little, two little, three little babies of my own

Of all the jobs, for me I'll choose no other

We'll have a family

Four little, five little, six little babies in my home

And I will love them all day long

And give them cookies and milk and yellow balloons

And cuddle them when things go wrong

And read them stories and sing them pretty tunes

When I grow up if I can be a mother

How happy I will be

One little, two little, three little babies I can love

And you will see each sister and each brother

Who look a lot like me

Four little, five little, six little blessings from above."

I didn't quite make it to six but I'm very grateful that I could be a mother and was blessed with four blessings from above (plus an extra blessing, my step son Kyle). Five little ones in my life to love and worry over and pray about.
I make mistakes daily. Forgetting to take an extra minute to just enjoy the hug or conversation and getting distracted with less important "to-do's." Losing my cool and getting frustrated over something that really won't matter tomorrow. There are things I hope to improve on and I hope to improve soon. My worry is they will be grown and I'll think to myself, "I was going to do better tomorrow," but it will be too late. I know I can never be the perfect mom so I try not to focus only on my mistakes.
I try to be a loving mom, a fun mom. Someone they want to be around and talk to. I think they all know I love each one...no matter what and that I enjoy their different personalities and getting to know them as the person they are becoming. I think we are one of the most fun families I know. We have wonderful times together playing board games, video games, snuggling on the couch watching movies and favorite tv shows. But some of my favorite moments are around the kitchen table. We laugh and talk and really enjoy each other. I am truly blessed, even on the "bad days."

I had a wonderful Mother's Day. Gavin made me cards and a pop tart breakfast with candy hearts. Natalee made brownies with strawberries on top. We curled up on the couch and watched the new Star Trek movie while John made breakfast for dinner. After the movie I enjoyed a nice long nap...ahhh, the perfect Mother's Day gift. I got lots of extra hugs and kisses and I love you's. I was even able to convince some of the kids to take pictures with me. John was nice enough to take them for us. It was super sunny and we all kept closing our eyes...John would get frustrated, lol. He did a great job. Thanks, Hon.
