Children's book portraying homosexual romance and marriage --
read to second-grade class by teacher.
At Estabrook Elementary School, Lexington, MA, March 24, 2006. The teacher had chosen the day's theme as "weddings" -- and this is the book she decided to read to the class. This book continues to be placed in elementary classrooms in Lexington and in others around the state.
"King and King" was read to second graders -- without any parental notification. As you can see, it's clearly written to normalize homosexual romance and "marriage" in the minds of very young children.
The Queen brought in several princesses from various places. The prince, of course, didn't like any of them. Then one princess brings her brother along. The book describes the prince's reaction to her brother: "At last, the prince felt a stir in his heart. It was love at first sight."
A few pages later the two princes are shown holding hands a their 'wedding'.
The book goes on to describe how they're not not just princes, but 'King and King."
Most upsetting to me, the last page shows a male-to-male kiss. Who cares there is a heart...EEWW! The message for kids here is pretty clear. . .

This book is published by Tricycle Press in San Francisco -- the same company that publishes "Who's in a Family", (click on title to learn more about this book and 2 others) the book about homosexual parents given to children in kindergarten!!

A friend emailed these links to me and I thought they were worth sharing...
The first link talks about the incident in Massachusetts.
Number 4 is from the UK urging the US not the make the same mistake they made.

So you can't pray or discuss religion in school but you can teach young children that homosexuality is ok WITHOUT parental consent! Shoot, they send a note home when they teach girls about menstruation and that IS natural. I feel religion and homosexuality are close enough topics to be left to the parents to teach - keep it out of schools!! Satan sure is a tricky fellow.

This totally disgusts me! I saw a segment about this story on the Today Show (I'm almost positive it was the Today Show). They interviewed 2 sets of parents (parents of the 2nd grade and Kindergarten kids, who were not at all happy with the situation) on the segment, and it made me so mad that teachers would read these books to their students! How dare they think this is appropriate to read at school! With your permission, I would like to use this post on my blog. I have been meaning to do a post about Prop 102 Yes for Marriage on my blog, but haven't gotten around to it yet...this would go well with that post.
P.S. I just deleted my comment, in case you are wondering why there's a deleted comment. After I wrote it, I read it over and it almost sounded like I was mad at the Today Show for doing the segment, or that they weren't showing it as a bad situation, so I wanted to re-word some things. I don't know, it's late! Anyway...I'm going to bed now :)
Ok, I feel really dumb now!! I just realized where I saw the segment I was talking about, and it was not on the Today Show. It was an email attachment from a friend. Anyway, that's what I get for blogging at midnight! My brain isn't thinking straight. Sorry for the incorrect info about the Today Show. But the part about me being disgusted that teachers would read this in class is still true! :)
LOL, AMY! Of course you can use this post on your blog! The more it is shared the better!
This is so disturbing. Scares me so much to put my children in public school and trust them.
THATS DISGUSTING!!! Don't you wish we could just form a convent of our own and shelter our poor children from the world! SHEESH! THat is so awful! Thanks for the links Rachel!
This is so disgusting! I had no idea this book even exisits. how is this teaher still teaching? And how do we go about removing this book from schools libraries? GROSS! Thanks for sharing!
What? That is totally wrong! Wow, I am relly disturbed. Guess everyone needs to ask for the reading curriculum from their children's teachers..and let them know that this book has no place in the classroom or at all really.
WoW!!! Thanks Rachel for this very informative post. I will take a look at my local school and see if it is there. We all need to be aware and take action. Thanks.
